United Bus Company of Tehran

Tehran, the capital city of Iran with 8,5 millions resident population and over 15 millions  fluctuating daytime population is somehow characterized by daily 18 millions journeys performed by its citizens through mobilization of more than 2 millions of various types of private and public vehicles within a vast network of streets and highways .

United Bus Company of Tehran has been serving the population of Iran’s capital for over 55 years. With a workforce of 8,500 UBCT currently manages about 6320 city buses in Tehran, 4398 of these are operated by 16 private sector companies under supervision plus 1078 mini bus.  In all, there are 230 bus lines, covering 2718 km. These lines are carrying an approximate number 4,500,000 passengers per working day.

As a solution to the problems of traffic and in view of rapid rise in demands for public transport the first BRT express line was established in 2007. On the basis of obtained results of several research studies on the operational efficiency of the first line actions were taken to develop new BRT lines and consequently 9 more lines were also launched. Presently 10 BRT lines with 171.8 km length are operating 1345 buses of single and double compartment types carrying close to 2،000,000 passengers per day.In the present report the central theme is the subject of BRT system in Tehran.
